민채 "The Sound of Silence" 재즈 라이브 동영상

 

2017년 1학기 첫 번째 대전대 목마 공연은 여성 재즈 보컬리스트 민채가 <민채의 편지>라는 타이틀로 무대를 꾸몄다.

 

민채는 4인조 재즈밴드의 반주로 열창했는데, 이번 레퍼토리는 1960년대와 70년대 전 세계의 포크계를 휘어 잡았던 미국의 폴 사이먼 Paul Simon과 아트 가펑클 Art Garfunkel로 꾸며진 2인조 보컬 그룹 '사이먼 앤 가펑클 Simon & Garfunkel'의 대표곡 <침묵의 소리 The Sound of Silence>(작사 및 작곡은 폴 사이먼) 라이브 동영상이다.

 

<침묵의 소리 The Sound of Silence>는 1964년가을에 발매된 데뷔 앨범인 'Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.'에 수록되어 있다.

하지만 컬럼비아 레코드에서 제작한 이 앨범은 상업적으로 실패함으로써 그룹이 해체되는 결과를 초래했다.

그러다가 이 노래가 1965년 봄에 미국 매사추세츠주와 플로리다주의 방송국에서 방송되기 시작하면서 관심을 끌게 되었고, 이 곡을 다른 프로듀서가 사이먼 앤 가펑클에 알리지도 않고 전기 악기로 리믹스하여 그 해 9월에 오버더빙 버전으로 발매하였다.

이 오버더빙 버전이 빌보드 핫 100에서 1위를 차지하는 성공을 거두게 되었고, 듀오는 재결합하여 자신들이 부른 <The Sound of Silence>[원 제목은 The Sounds of Silence]를 담은 두 번째 음반 'Sounds of Silence'을 급히 발표하였다.

이 노래가 전 세계의 팝송 차트에서 1위부터 상위권에 오르는 기염을 토하게 됨으로써 세계적인 가수로 발돋움하였다.
